We’re finally cutting funding for the Wuhan lab that likely caused COVID
All the evidence suggests COVID came from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Patients Zero? Now known to be scientists working there.
China, from the first weeks of the pandemic, cracked down on all reports of the new plague and has still blocked any systematic internal investigation into the virus’ origins.
WIV, despite official secrecy, was engaged in bioweapons research (in the opinion of the US government).
And the virus’ unique furin cleavage site, the means by which it enters cells, is not found in any of its natural coronavirus relatives.
So given all this, the US is just now scrapping its federal funding?
Per an ultra-quiet White House memo, the government’s ending funding for the lab after it refused to turn over requested safety documentation following a review process that started in September.
That’s almost three years after WIV scientists and their lax protocols likely sparked the deadliest pandemic in recent memory.
Look, we get Team Biden’s calculus here.
Even the slightest admission implicating the lab in the pandemic would be a huge political black eye for President Biden and “public health” proxies like Anthony Fauci.
They did their best — along with the brutal regime in Beijing — to suppress the likely truth of the lab-leak origin theory.
They used the immense power of the US government to do so.
And they had massive help from an eager and compliant media.
As well as Big Brother, er, we mean Big Tech (which stomped on stories like our February 2020 op-ed, arguing that the lab-leak theory it contemplated was “disinformation”).
But shutting off the fed spigot only Monday proves just how much contempt Biden, Fauci & Co. have for the people who suffered under their useless regime of lockdowns, school closures and hygiene theater.
That the move was made with zero fanfare proves Team Biden understands its guilt here.
It shows, too, that the administration barely has the spine to do a tiny fraction of what’s necessary, and that not even in timely fashion, in responding to China’s outrageous role in spreading the bug that’s killed 7.6 million people — and in hiding the evidence.
Hmm: How utterly typical of Biden foreign policy, and reminiscent of its dribs-and-drabs strategy on Ukraine. Its actions are always way too little, and way too late.
Sure, it’s good Biden finally did the right thing.
But the hush-hush move reveals yet again that we desperately need a full and final accounting of how powerful federal agencies and high-ranking American scientists got so entangled with a shoddy Chinese research lab.
No matter where — and how high up — that review might lead.
