Dershowitz Supports Judge’s Decision in Hunter Case, Tells Newsmax
Legal scholar Alan Dershowitz has praised U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika for delaying her ruling on Hunter Biden’s plea deal, which involves charges of misdemeanor tax evasion and a separate gun charge. The delay obstructs what has been called a “sweetheart plea deal” for the first son. Dershowitz commends Noreika for asking tough questions that caught Biden’s lawyers off guard. The main question raised was whether the plea bargain allows for Hunter Biden to be investigated and prosecuted for any other crimes that may arise during future investigations. Biden’s lawyers argue that the deal should nullify any potential further prosecutions, while the prosecution maintains that there may be evidence of more serious crimes. The judge’s decision to delay the ruling is expected to lead to further negotiations and a potential revised plea deal. However, Dershowitz believes that the judge should not agree to the deal unless the issue of whether U.S. District Attorney David Weiss had authority beyond Delaware is resolved. If Weiss did not have such authority, the plea bargain should be rejected as it would be based on an incomplete investigation, which Dershowitz argues is not in the interest of justice.
