Biden Administration Denies Possibility of Presidential Pardon for Son

The White House has announced that President Joe Biden will not pardon his son Hunter Biden, who is facing charges of failing to pay taxes on over $1.5 million in income in 2017 and 2018. Hunter Biden was expected to plead guilty to the charges on Wednesday, but the plea deal was halted by U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika in Delaware due to concerns about the structure and terms of the agreement, as well as an additional deal related to a gun charge. Noreika has asked both sides to file written briefs addressing her concerns within 30 days.

The collapse of Hunter Biden’s plea deal has given House Republicans a boost in their efforts to connect him and his business dealings to his father. Republicans have criticized the agreement as a “sweetheart deal” and are using the situation to further their investigation into the Biden family’s financial ties. Last month, Republican Representative James Comer joined forces with two chairmen of powerful committees to investigate claims by IRS agents that the Justice Department improperly interfered in Hunter Biden’s case. They have requested that U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who led the investigation, testify about the case.

The plea deal could still be salvaged through negotiations between Hunter Biden’s lawyers and prosecutors. However, if it completely falls apart, Hunter Biden could potentially face a trial. The judge will have the final say on whether he serves any time behind bars.
