Trump Accuses Latest Charges of ‘Prosecutorial Misconduct’

Former President Donald Trump has launched another attack against the new charges brought against him last week. Trump took to Truth Social to criticize the charges, calling them “Prosecutorial Misconduct.” The charges involve documents with classified markings that were discovered at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Trump questioned why special counsel Jack Smith is prosecuting him when he believes he did nothing wrong under the Presidential Records Act. Trump suggested that the real reason behind the charges is “Election Interference,” claiming that the Department of Injustice is attempting to “Rig & Steal the Presidential Election.” He pointed to Hillary Clinton’s deletion of 33,000 emails, many of which were classified, after receiving a subpoena from Congress. Trump questioned why nothing happened to her and accused James Comey, the former head of the FBI, of stating that no reasonable prosecutor would pursue her case. Trump’s statement reflects his ongoing denial of any wrongdoing and his belief that he is being unfairly targeted for political reasons.
