Congressional Investigators Summon Devon Archer to Testify
Devon Archer, a former associate of Hunter Biden, appeared before a congressional panel for an interview regarding allegations against President Joe Biden and his family. House Republicans claim that Hunter Biden used his father’s position as vice president to engage in an influence peddling scheme while serving on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma. They hope that Archer can provide evidence of the president’s involvement. These allegations played a role in Donald Trump’s impeachment in 2019. However, Democrats argue that the Republican investigation has failed to produce any evidence of wrongdoing and accuse them of concealing key evidence to create a false narrative. Lev Parnas, a former Trump insider, has also contradicted claims of Biden wrongdoing in Ukraine. The House Oversight Committee has also heard testimony from IRS whistleblowers who allege that their investigation of Hunter Biden was obstructed by the Justice Department. Last week, Hunter Biden appeared in court, but the judge rejected his plea agreement. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy warned that Republicans could initiate an impeachment inquiry against President Biden if federal agencies do not cooperate with oversight committees investigating his administration and family’s business dealings. Some Republicans view this warning as a tactic to rally support for appropriations bills.
