52% of Republican Voters Believe Government Should Not Interfere in Culture War, NYT Poll Reveals
According to a New York Times poll, a majority of Republican primary voters support a candidate who opposes government involvement in corporations’ decisions of what to support. However, about 4 in 10 said they would support a candidate who actively opposes “woke” ideology. In the poll, 52% of Republican primary voters said they would support a candidate who says the government should stay out of deciding what corporations can support, while 38% said they would support a candidate who fights against “woke” ideology. The poll also mentioned that 10% did not know or refused to answer. The New York Times focused on connecting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to his fight against “woke” corporations, as he has made this a central point of his political identity. However, when given a choice between a candidate prioritizing “defeating radical woke ideology” and one focusing on “law and order in our streets and at the border”, only 24% said they would be more likely to support the candidate fighting against “woke” issues. The other 65% preferred a candidate focusing on “law and order” and the border, while 11% did not know or refused to answer. DeSantis has been actively involved in addressing border issues and has coordinated with other southern governors on the matter.
