Super PAC Collects $78 Million, Plans to Prevent Trump’s Victory in 2024
Americans for Prosperity Action, a super PAC with ties to billionaire Charles Koch, has raised $78 million this year. The group opposes former President Donald Trump and is using the funds to prevent him from becoming the GOP nominee in 2024. Most of the funding came from two $25 million donations, one from Koch Industries Inc. and the other from the Stand Together Chamber of Commerce. Americans for Prosperity Action has spent nearly $600,000 on ads attacking Trump and his possible nomination, arguing that it would lead to President Joe Biden’s re-election. The super PAC has not endorsed any of Trump’s GOP primary challengers. It received additional funding from billionaire Walmart heirs and big GOP donor Ron Cameron. The group aims to become a barrier for Trump in his second White House bid. PACs affiliated with the anti-tax group Club for Growth are also raising significant funds to find an alternative GOP candidate. The Koch brothers, who have been major Republican donors, refused to financially back Trump in 2016. Americans for Prosperity Action spent over $69 million in support of GOP candidates during the 2022 midterms.
