Dershowitz Tells Newsmax: Indictment Falls Short of ‘Requisite Standard’ for Targeting Opponent
Harvard Law School Emeritus Professor Alan Dershowitz believes that the criminal indictments brought against former President Donald Trump do not meet the high standard required to go after a political opponent. Dershowitz acknowledges that a conviction is likely given that the indictments are based in Washington, D.C., but argues that it falls short because it is President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice that is pursuing the charges. He also criticizes the New York indictment, calling it the worst he has seen in his 60 years of practice. Dershowitz believes that the Florida indictment is the strongest of the four against Trump, but even then, the obstruction charge is based on “triple hearsay.” He concludes that even the Florida indictment is not strong enough to influence an election. Overall, Dershowitz argues that Trump is not being treated fairly and that the charges against him do not meet the required standard for going after a political opponent.
