Emerson Poll: DeSantis Experiences Modest Increase Following Debate
According to a recent national poll by Emerson College Polling, Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis saw a small increase in support following the Republican presidential debate. DeSantis gained 2 points, bringing his support to 12% and maintaining his position in second place among contenders for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. Former President Donald Trump, who did not participate in the debate, remains the clear front-runner with 50% support, although this is a 6-point decrease from the previous poll. Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy stayed in third place with 9% support, while former Vice President Mike Pence saw a 4-point increase to 7% after the debate. Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley experienced the largest increase in support, gaining 5 points to reach 7%. The survey also found a softening of support for both Trump and DeSantis since the previous poll, with 71% of Trump voters now saying they would definitely support him and DeSantis’s support decreasing from 32% to 25%. The poll was conducted on August 25-26.
