Former Proud Boys Organizer Sentenced to 17-Year Prison Term for Conspiracy to Maintain Trump’s Hold on Power
Joseph Biggs, a former organizer of the Proud Boys group, was sentenced to 17 years in prison for his involvement in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Biggs and other Proud Boys members broke through police lines and disrupted the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral victory. Prosecutors had recommended a 33-year sentence for Biggs. The judge will separately sentence four other Proud Boys members who were convicted in May. The Oath Keepers founder, Stewart Rhodes, received the harshest sentence of 18 years for his involvement in the attack. Over 1,100 people have been charged with federal crimes related to the events of January 6, with over 600 already convicted and sentenced.
