Senate Thwarts Tuberville, Confirms Air Force and Navy’s Key Selections

The U.S. Senate, despite the opposition from Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, has confirmed the nominations of two senior military leaders via a vote on Thursday. This includes the confirmation of Adm. Lisa Franchetti as the first female member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the chief of naval operations. Franchetti’s confirmation makes her the first woman to hold a seat on the Joint Chiefs and lead the Navy. Gen. David Allvin was also confirmed as the chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force. Meanwhile, the Senate was expected to confirm Lt. Gen. Christopher Mahoney as the assistant commandant for the U.S. Marine Corps.
