UCP Delegates in Alberta Vote to Support Parental Rights, Denounce Medical Coercion, and Oppose 2035 Net-Zero Targets
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith expressed her government’s commitment to protecting parental rights during the UCP convention in Calgary. Among the policies adopted by delegates were the rejection of Ottawa’s 2035 net-zero emission targets, the promotion of parental rights in schools, and the elimination of sexually explicit content from schools. Delegates prioritized opposing the federal emissions target and called on the Alberta government to protect the province’s economy and autonomy. Concerns were raised about blackouts in rural regions if the 2035 emissions targets were implemented. Parental rights were highlighted as a key issue, with resolutions passed to require consent from parents before changing a child’s name or pronouns at school and to restrict access to age-inappropriate sexual material. The resolutions voted on are non-binding, but reflect grassroots concerns within the party. Premier Smith reiterated her commitment to parental rights in her convention speech. The convention also passed resolutions opposing medical coercion and advocating for freedom of speech.
