Rep. Mooney Responds to Newsmax: Obama’s Statements on Israel Conflict Misguided

Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., told Newsmax on Saturday that former President Barack Obama is wrong in his assessment of the Israel war on Hamas and that Israel has a “right to exist.”

On Saturday, an excerpt from the podcast “Pod Save America” was released. During the podcast, Obama urged Americans to “take in the whole truth” when mulling Israel’s war against Hamas, according to the New York Post. “What Hamas did was horrific,” the former president said, “and there’s no justification for it. And what is also true is that the occupation, and what’s happening to Palestinians, is unbearable.”

Speaking to “The Count,” Mooney says, “Israel is simply trying to defend itself from people who want to destroy the whole – everybody — kill everybody. They want to defend themselves. You can’t equate that with what Barack Obama said.”

“Barack Obama, who you just showed, guaranteed Iran will get nuclear weapons in 10 years based on the Iran Nuclear Deal bill he passed when he was president. That was really stupid. Of course, [former President] Donald Trump helped undo that.”

According to former State Department official under the Trump administration Mike Benz, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was a play for the West to share in the profits from Iran’s rich natural gas reserves. “This was also known as the Iran Nuclear Deal. It’s called the Iran Nuclear Deal, but that’s not really what it was,” Benz says.” It was an energy deal with sort of the word nuclear upfront of stopping Iran from getting a bomb. But what it really was, was an easing of sanctions.”

According to Trump, as revealed by the secret audio tapes posted by CNN, he never had any interest in attacking Iran — it was a play from the Department of Defense.

“Well,” Trump says, “with [Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark] Milley – uh, let me see that, I’ll show you an example. He said that I wanted to attack Iran.”

“Isn’t it amazing? I have a big pile of papers; this thing just came up. Look. [papers shuffling] This was him. They presented me this – this is off the record – but they presented me this. This was him. This was the Defense Department and [Milley].”
