Weekend Holiday Shopping Disrupted by Lockdown at West Edmonton Mall

Shoppers at the West Edmonton Mall were placed under lockdown for an unknown reason on Dec. 2.

The mall’s social media account asked people inside the building to stay in a secure location until further notice.

“West Edmonton Mall is currently under lockdown,” the post said. “Please remain in the closest secure location until the lockdown has been lifted. Please stay tuned for additional updates.”

The lockdown was initially announced around 4:40 p.m. and lifted around 5 p.m.

“The emergency situation has now been resolved,” the mall posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The Epoch Times reached out to mall officials and the Edmonton Police Service but did not immediately hear back.
