Haley Holds 17-Point Lead Over Biden in WSJ Poll: 51% to 34%
Former President Donald Trump continues to criticize “fake news” media narratives claiming Democrats want to face him, but former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley claims that Democrats should fear her the most.
In the latest poll published on Saturday by The Wall Street Journal, Haley drew a 51% majority support in a hypothetical matchup against President Joe Biden.
She outperformed Trump, who had a 4-point lead over Biden (47%-43%), and Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, who was in a dead heat tie with Biden in the poll (45%-45%).
Haley, who DeSantis has criticized recently for being backed by the Republican establishment and the Koch brothers, would be a potential challenge to former President Ronald Reagan’s 1984 rout of Democrat Walter Mondale when he won by 18 points, as Mediaite noted.
Notably, Trump finally led Biden in the Journal poll for the first time, as Biden’s approval rating has reached a new low at 37% (along with a record high 61% disapproval).
Regardless of the support for Haley against Biden, Trump is dominating the GOP presidential primary field by 44 points, and Haley is not even a second choice in the poll:
- Trump 59%
- DeSantis 14%
- Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley 15%
- Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy 4%
- Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie 2%
- Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson 0%
GOP pollster Fabrizio Lee and Democrat pollster GBAO Strategies conducted The Wall Street Journal poll among 1,500 registered voters from Nov. 29-Dec. 4. The results had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
