US Appeals Court Temporarily Lifts Import Ban on Apple Watch | Science & Tech Update
Apple has successfully obtained the right to import two of its smartwatches into the United States, as the appeals court has temporarily lifted a previous ban on imports.
In October, the tech giant was instructed to cease importing and selling Series 9 and Ultra 2 watches after a complaint from medical-monitoring technology company Masimo, alleging patent infringement.
Masimo had accused Apple of poaching its employees, stealing its pulse oximetry technology, and integrating it into Apple watches.
The US President Joe Biden’s administration chose not to override the ban on Boxing Day, allowing it to take effect.
However, on the same day, Apple requested a pause, which was granted by a US appeals court today.
In October, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) had ruled that Apple watches with technology for reading blood-oxygen levels should not be imported or sold.
As a result, Apple temporarily halted the sales of its Series 9 and Ultra 2 smartwatches in the US, although they were still available for purchase from other retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, and Walmart.
