Representative Sessions tells Newsmax that the Biden administration does not anticipate Austin to provide a report.

Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Monday that the Biden administration doesn’t “expect people to go to work,” much less report that they’re undergoing a medical procedure, as in Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s case.

Austin, who ranks just below President Joe Biden at the top of the U.S. military chain of command, has come under intense scrutiny after it was revealed he withheld that he was hospitalized on New Year’s Day from the president and the public for several days.

On Monday, a White House official said that Biden is not considering firing Austin, despite his failure to disclose the hospitalization.

During an appearance on “National Report,” Sessions said that “what we’re learning today” is that “there were people out of the know, instead of being in the know.”

“But it shows how much they don’t work with each other,” he said of the offices under the executive branch. “And this goes all the way back to Bill Clinton. When he was in the White House, he was completely unaware of the day to day activities for intelligence and this is the same type of circumstance that goes on now.”

“There should be daily briefings,” he said. “There should be daily conversations and decisions that are being made, and they can’t be done if they don’t even talk to each other. So, once again, I think the Biden White House doesn’t even expect people to go to work, so why should they expect the secretary of Defense to report in?”

Austin’s role requires that he be available to respond to a national security crisis at any moment. He said Saturday that he takes “full responsibility” for the secrecy surrounding his hospitalization.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Monday that Austin had resumed all authority, performing his duties from the hospital.

The secretary reportedly had a minor elective medical procedure Dec. 22, was discharged the next day and was admitted to intensive care at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Jan. 1 when he began to experience severe pain.

The Pentagon did not provide any details about the medical procedure Austin had done.
