Senate Rejects Bernie Sanders’ Proposal to Link Israel’s Military Aid to Humanitarian Assurances
The resolution to freeze U.S. military aid to Israel unless a review of alleged human rights violations was conducted by the U.S. State Department was voted down by the U.S. Senate on Tuesday night. The resolution, brought by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), called for an assessment of the human rights practices of nations receiving U.S. security assistance under the 1961 Foreign Assistance Act. If passed, the resolution would have required the State Department to provide the human rights review within 30 days.
