Attack on US-Led Coalition Airbase in Iraq by Iranian-Backed Group with Missiles and Rockets
Injuries to US and Iraqi personnel have been reported.
Iranian-backed militants in western Iraq attacked the U.S.-led international coalition forces al-Assad Airbase on Saturday night, causing injuries to U.S. and Iraqi personnel.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that at approximately 6:30 p.m., multiple ballistic missiles and rockets were launched targeting the coalition airbase. Although many of the missiles were intercepted by the base’s air defense systems, others hit the target.
“Damage assessments are ongoing,” CENTCOM said in a statement. “A number of U.S. personnel are undergoing evaluation for traumatic brain injuries. At least one Iraqi service member was wounded.”
