Trump Receives Support from Registered GOP Voters in New Hampshire; Haley Receives Undeclared Votes

Three out of 4 registered Republican voters stated that they voted for Donald Trump, the front-runner. In addition, around two-thirds of undeclared voters (independents) went for runner-up Nikki Haley in the first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire on Tuesday night, as per CNN’s exit poll analysis.

Trump was declared the winner shortly after 8 p.m. ET.

CNN’s polling revealed that nearly two-thirds identified themselves as conservative, with a third describing themselves as “very conservative.” About 30% stated that they were moderates.

Unlike the Iowa caucuses, most voters did not consider themselves part of the Make America Great Again movement, according to CNN. In Iowa, nearly 50% identified as MAGA.

CNN also reported that approximately two-thirds of voters without college degrees voted for Trump, while about 60% of those with college degrees voted for Haley.

Furthermore, CNN found that about 8 in 10 of those who voted for Trump said they “strongly favored” him. On the other hand, roughly 40% of those who voted for Haley did so out of distaste for Trump, with only a third stating they “strongly favored” her.

Similar to Iowa caucusgoers, New Hampshire primary voters identified immigration and the economy as the top two issues. However, a majority of New Hampshire voters said they would oppose a federal ban on abortions, in contrast to Iowa, where 59% of caucusgoers favored banning abortion nationwide.

Edison Research interviewed 2,029 New Hampshire primary voters across 40 different polling sites for CNN. The margin of error is +/- 4 points.
