Mexican Authorities Stop Train with 1,800 Migrants Headed to Texas

State authorities in the border state of Coahuila, Mexico recently intercepted a train transporting over 1,800 migrants, temporarily disrupting their journey from Mexico City to the Texas border, reported Breitbart.

State police forces halted the train, discovering migrants riding illegally both on the train’s roof and inside compartments. During the temporary detention, officials conducted interviews to assess the migrants’ status. Most of them possessed legal permits, allowing them to be in Mexico and travel through the country, according to the report.

After their forced exit from the train, the migrants regrouped in the Monclova area, strategizing alternative routes to reach the border cities of Piedras Negras and Ciudad Acuña to cross the border into Texas, the article said.

Contrary to initial reports, a Coahuila law enforcement official, speaking to Breitbart Texas, estimated that the number of migrants on the train at nearly 3,000 individuals.

Migrants, driven by various motivations, have been utilizing diverse modes of transportation, including trains, passenger buses, and airplanes, to travel from Mexico City and the southern regions to the Coahuila border.

Mexico’s National Immigration Institute did not spearhead the operation. Instead, Coahuila State police officers stopped the train, with law enforcement sources confirming that the National Immigration Institute did not participate in the operation. At the time of the intervention, authorities encountered challenges locating immigration agents to facilitate referring the migrants.

Meanwhile, Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement that in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas National Guard, the state persists in its concerted efforts to fortify the border.

The primary objectives encompass impeding the illicit transportation of drugs, weaponry, and individuals into Texas and thwarting, identifying, and intercepting transnational criminal activities occurring between designated entry points.

Since the initiation of Operation Lone Star, an interagency initiative, there have been more than 496,700 apprehensions of illegal immigrants and over 38,700 arrests, resulting in more than 35,100 felony charges.

In the combat against the fentanyl crisis, Texas law enforcement has confiscated over 454 million potentially lethal doses of fentanyl during this border-focused mission.

Furthermore, Texas has facilitated the transportation of migrants to other areas of the United States:

– Over 12,500 to Washington, D.C., since April 2022.

– Over 37,500 to New York City since August 2022.

– Over 31,200 to Chicago since August 2022.

– Over 3,400 to Philadelphia since November 2022.

– Over 16,000 to Denver since May 18.

– Over 1,500 to Los Angeles since June 14.

The governor said that Operation Lone Star remains steadfast in addressing perilous voids created by the Biden administration’s reluctance to secure the border. Each apprehension, arrest, and drug seizure signifies an intervention that would otherwise have seen its way into communities across Texas and the nation, attributable to President Joe Biden’s open border policies, he said.
