GOP Holds Lead Over Dems in Generic ’24 Ballot, NBC News Poll Shows
Republicans are leading Democrats by 4 points on a generic congressional ballot for the upcoming election according to the latest NBC News poll.
In the latest NBC News survey, 49% of respondents preferred Republicans, while 45% preferred Democrats when asked which party they would like to see win control of Congress in November.
This has increased the GOP’s lead from 47% to 45% in November.
Republicans currently hold a 219-213 edge in the House with three vacancies.
There are 41 current House members, including 23 Democrats, who are not seeking reelection, according to Ballotpedia.
Republicans are also trying to turn the current 51-49 U.S. Senate minority into a majority.
36% of respondents describe themselves as “moderate” regarding their general approach to issues, making it the top choice, while 19% identify as very conservative, 18% as somewhat conservative, 13% as somewhat liberal, and 11% as very liberal. 3% are unsure.
43% of respondents consider themselves middle class, 27% working class, 18% upper middle class, 7% poor, 3% well-to-do, and 2% refused to say or were not sure.
In the NBC News poll, President Joe Biden’s approval rating hit a new low at 37%, raising concern for Democrat pollsters. Former President Donald Trump leads Biden by 5 points in the national poll.
Regarding immigration, 57% think Trump is better at securing the border compared to 22% who think Biden is better at controlling immigration. In a matchup between Trump and Biden, Trump stays within the margin of error, even if he is convicted of a crime.
RealClear Polling’s average of national surveys has the GOP leading the generic ballot with 45.1% compared to Democrats’ 42.7%.
The NBC News poll was conducted among 1,000 registered voters from Jan. 26-30.
