Biden’s Labeling of Putin as ‘Crazy SOB’ is Seen as ‘Hollywood Cowboy’ Talk in the Kremlin
The Kremlin criticized Joe Biden for calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a “crazy SOB,” saying it debased the United States and was part of a failed “Hollywood cowboy” act.
Biden made the “crazy SOB” remark in the context of discussing threats to the world, including “that guy Putin and others,” the risk of nuclear conflict, and the existential threat of climate change.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Reuters, “The use of such language against the head of another state by the president of the United States is unlikely to infringe on our president, President Putin. But it debases those who use such vocabulary.”
Peskov said the remark was “probably some kind of attempt to look like a Hollywood cowboy. But honestly I don’t think it’s possible.”
He criticized Biden for using such language and said, “Has Mr Putin ever used one crude word to address you? This has never happened. Therefore, I think that such vocabulary debases America itself.”
Putin ally Dmitry Medvedev criticized Biden, calling him “senile” and “ready to start a war with Russia.” He also said that the existential threat to the world came from “useless old geezers, like Biden himself.”
Tensions between Russia and the West have escalated due to the war in Ukraine, the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, and allegations that Russia plans to put a nuclear weapon in space.
Biden’s remarks about Navalny’s death and his previous comments about Putin have further strained relations between the two countries.
