Harris Holds Private Meeting to Increase Voting Opportunities

Vice President Kamala Harris convened a private meeting on Tuesday to discuss the expansion of voter registration.

At the beginning of the meeting, Harris delivered a 7-minute monologue emphasizing the importance of safeguarding voting rights and protecting poll workers. Following her speech, the press was asked to leave the room, and the remainder of the meeting was conducted behind closed doors.

Axios reported that the roundtable discussion on strategies involved representatives from over 20 voting rights organizations.

During her address, Harris announced plans to promote three national days of voting “action.”

“I’m also excited to announce today,” Harris stated, “that we will designate three national days of action in collaboration with the leaders present, where we can continue our efforts to uplift communities, strengthen coalitions, and empower communities to lead in their own localities. These three national days of action for voting will be Juneteenth, the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act” (Aug. 6), “and, of course, National Voter Registration Day” (Sept. 24).

Given the confidential nature of the meeting, details on how the strategy to expand voter registration on these “action” days will be implemented remain unclear.
