Jordan Sekulow Tells Newsmax: Hunter Biden Has the Right to Plead the Fifth on Certain Questions
According to Jordan Sekulow, the executive director for the American Center for Law and Justice, Hunter Biden, currently facing criminal charges of tax fraud, has the right to claim Fifth Amendment objections during his congressional testimony if questions relate too closely to his case.
Sekulow mentioned on Wednesday on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” that the goal of Hunter Biden’s deposition is not necessarily his prosecution, but rather to gain insight that could potentially lead to articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden.
The joint House Oversight and Judiciary committees will conduct Hunter Biden’s deposition behind closed doors as part of an ongoing impeachment inquiry into the president. The transcript with redactions will be released within 24 hours of the proceedings, according to Sekulow.
The committees hope to get answers on specific tax issues unrelated to Hunter Biden’s criminal charges in California by focusing on testimony from other witnesses who have mentioned his involvement in certain activities.
Additionally, Sekulow raised concerns about Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis and the timing of her past romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, who is involved in the Trump Georgia election interference case.
The bigger question, Sekulow emphasized, is whether Willis should continue prosecuting the case given the appearance of impropriety due to her relationship with Wade. If a new district attorney takes over, the case may face challenges.
