Sen. Ron Johnson tells Newsmax: Next leader of the GOP must combat the left
Speaking to Newsmax on Wednesday, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., expressed his hope for the next Senate Republican leader to unify the conference against the radical left, which he believes is causing harm to the country.
Earlier that day, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., announced his decision to step down in November after serving nearly 17 years as the Senate’s top Republican. McConnell stated that he will complete his term, which ends in 2026.
Johnson praised McConnell for his timely announcement, giving the conference time to establish goals and a mission statement that can be communicated to the public and embraced by Republican Senate candidates and the new leader.
He emphasized the importance of a simple one-sentence mission statement to counter the radical left’s policies and ideology that are detrimental to the nation. Johnson also highlighted the need for principled conservative leadership to address issues like high inflation, border crises, and increasing federal deficits under President Joe Biden and Senate Democrats.
Johnson stressed the necessity for the next Senate Republican leader to unify Republicans around common goals in order to combat the destructive influence of the radical left. He emphasized the importance of setting achievable goals to accomplish the mission statement.
