Alabama Senator Britt to Deliver GOP Response to State of the Union
Alabama Sen. Katie Britt, 42, the youngest female senator, has been chosen to deliver the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech on March 7.
Britt, the first woman elected to the Senate from Alabama, endorsed former President Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nominee in the upcoming election. She, along with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., stated that “it’s time for the next generation to step up.”
“The Republican Party represents hardworking parents and families, and I am eager to highlight this important perspective,” Britt said.
Political analyst Mark Halperin has suggested that Britt could be Trump’s choice for vice president in the next election.
Bringing attention to a recent controversial ruling in Alabama, Britt has advocated for the preservation of IVF services, emphasizing their pro-life and pro-family stance.
Mitch McConnell praised Britt as an “unapologetic optimist” and noted her swift rise in advancing American values in the Senate.
Acknowledging Britt’s role as a mother with school-aged children, Mike Johnson commended her dedication to family values, border security, national defense, and a strong economy.
A former congressional staffer and attorney, Britt took office in 2022, succeeding Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby on the Senate Appropriations Committee.
In the previous year, former Trump White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders delivered the Republican response.
