Democratic Representative Proposes Bill to Remove Trump from Ballot

Following a unanimous Supreme Court decision that a state cannot exclude a presidential candidate from the ballot, Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., announced plans to reintroduce legislation preventing individuals involved in an “insurrection” from running for president.

Raskin, speaking with CNN‘s Dana Bash, highlighted Section 3 of the 14th Amendment as grounds for disqualifying those who have taken an oath of office and engaged in insurrection or rebellion from holding federal or state office.

“Donald Trump is ineligible,” Raskin stated. He mentioned collaborating with colleagues like Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Eric Swalwell to reintroduce legislation that establishes a process for disqualifying individuals who have committed insurrection under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

Raskin pointed out that Trump had already been impeached by the House of Representatives for involvement in the insurrection, and raised concerns about Speaker Mike Johnson’s willingness to address the issue in the House.
