In Memoriam: Remembering Richard Lewis through Letters

RIP Richard Lewis

Richard Lewis, who perfected the comic persona of the anguished, petulant neurotic, has left a void that feels like losing a close family member or classmate (“Curb your tears,” March 3).

Despite his Brooklyn roots, Lewis always showcased his brilliance amidst his angst. His all-black attire made him an attractive figure, a fact that he may have been too humble to admit.

Rest in peace, Richard. We already miss you dearly.

Squatters’ rights

The solution to the squatters in Queens is simple: The owners should sue both the realtor and their attorney (“Defense of Qns. manse lingerer,” March 3).

The realtor is responsible for presenting an accurate status of the property and its inhabitants, if any. The attorney failed in conveying a clear title to the property and should not have closed if unauthorized people were still in the house. The Landas have those remedies available. The squatters’ rights laws, while absurd, present a separate challenge.

Willis vs. Trump

What sets former President Donald Trump apart from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (“Fani Willis’ Crushed Credibility,” Editorial, March 1)?

Unlike Trump, Willis cannot complain about her perceived suffering or persecution.

She brought her problems upon herself.

She made her choices, and now she must face the consequences.

St. Patty’s parade

It’s disappointing that even after all these years, there is biased coverage surrounding the “lack of inclusion” in various St. Patrick’s Day parades (“SI out of step,” March 4).

The bigger question to consider is: Why do members of the LGBT community insist on marching in the parade as a separate faction? Why force inclusion on a parade honoring a Catholic saint unless it’s a political statement or protest against the Catholic Church? This aspect should be explored further instead of focusing solely on exclusivity.

GOP shambles

While Michael Goodwin suggests that the Republican Party needs change, I believe that a collaborative GOP approach can succeed despite claims that it is doomed to fail (“Nikki left GOP behind — for a reason,” March 3).

Donald Trump may have established a loyal base of supporters, but it’s a minority in the general election. He alienates many moderates and independents, shrinking his appeal. Furthermore, by banning Republicans who supported Nikki Haley, Trump is narrowing his tent even further, which is not a winning strategy.

Secret sources

Catherine Herridge, as an experienced journalist, is not just a cable-TV talking head or entertainer (“Journo held in contempt,” March 1).

Herridge’s refusal to disclose her source, who had valid security concerns, demonstrates her integrity and commitment to protecting her sources. She should be allowed to exercise her First Amendment right without facing punitive actions from the courts.
