Analyst predicts US-North Korea Summit is Unlikely to Happen, Even if Trump Wins

According to a U.S. analyst in South Korea, another summit between the United States and North Korea is unlikely, even if former President Donald Trump wins the November election. The last meeting between the two countries took place in June 2019 when Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to visit North Korea since the armistice in 1953. The analyst stated that North Korea has shifted its focus away from negotiating with individual American presidents, indicating a different direction in their strategy.

During Trump’s presidency, there were discussions about letting North Korea keep its nuclear weapons in exchange for financial incentives to halt the production of new bombs, a departure from previous stances. However, circumstances have changed in South Korea with the election of a more conservative government, making direct engagement with Kim Jong Un less likely.

Under the Biden administration, North Korea has increased weapons testing by launching missiles and firing artillery near the border with South Korea.
