Will Cassidy Hutchinson be prosecuted for her testimony in Trump’s case?
Donald Trump, the former President, raised doubts on Monday about the possible prosecution of Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide, for claiming that he lunged at his limo driver on Jan. 6, 2021.
“Our excellent Secret Service has completely discredited Cassidy Hutchinson’s (someone I barely knew) fabricated (FAKE!) accusations of me mistreating Secret Service Agents from the back seat of the Beast (Limo),” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Has she altered her testimony now? Will she face legal consequences for her actions and statements? And what about the Unselect J6 Committee? They have destroyed almost everything, including important evidence and findings. What will happen to them – There have been serious crimes committed?”
Hutchinson had previously testified that Trump had a hostile interaction with his Secret Service detail, allegedly insisting on being taken to the Capitol. However, a recent report from House Republicans disputes Hutchinson’s version, stating that Trump did not try to take control of the vehicle.
“The SUV driver testified that he did not witness him reach [redacted].”
“[President Trump] never grabbed the steering wheel. I didn’t see him, you know, lunge to try to get into the front seat at all,” the driver stated, according to the report.
The report, released by Republicans, raises doubts about the credibility of the now-dissolved House Jan. 6 Committee, which included former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., who allegedly withheld evidence.
