The NHS will continue providing cross-sex hormones to teenagers
Campaigners are raising concerns about the prioritization of ideology over patient safety in the ‘disturbing’ approach of ‘gender-affirming care’ for young people who identify as transgender.
NHS England has confirmed it will continue prescribing cross-sex hormones to children as young as 16 after reviewing its clinical practices for young individuals experiencing gender confusion.
Helen Joyce, a director at the Sex Matters campaign group, expressed dismay over this development, stating, “This troubling situation highlights the ongoing battle to restore evidence-based medical practices.”
She also pointed out a troubling aspect, noting that children struggling with self-harm, psychotic episodes, or drug addiction may still qualify for hormone treatment.
“The NHS must reconsider its approach to prevent further harm caused by medical practices influenced by ideology rather than proven clinical benefits,” Joyce added.
