Rep. Van Duyne tells Newsmax: ‘Poorly’ Timed Decision to Oust Speaker Johnson
Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, told Newsmax Monday that it is not the appropriate time to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La.
Last Friday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene, R-Ga., submitted a motion to remove Johnson from his position as speaker during the vote on the $1.2 trillion government spending bill.
Van Duyne, appearing on “The Chris Salcedo Show,” expressed her support for Greene but stated that the timing of this move is not ideal.
“The reality is that Speaker Johnson is doing his best with the circumstances he is facing and the timing constraints. Now, individuals on both sides of the aisle are creating a challenging situation for him, as it only takes one or two people to reject the bill for not being perfect enough,” Van Duyne remarked.
Following Greene’s motion, she clarified to reporters, as reported by NBC News, that the motion was meant as a warning rather than an immediate removal.
Later, Greene conveyed her frustrations on X, pointing fingers at Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for allocating funds to Ukraine while neglecting security measures for the southern border.
