Some Nikki Haley supporters switch their support to Biden due to opposition to Trump

Following Nikki Haley’s decision to end her presidential campaign, there is a divide among her supporters on who to back next. Some are reluctant to support former President Donald Trump and plan to vote for President Joe Biden, while others acknowledge their support for Trump and plan to vote for him again.

Haley’s base was never large enough to seriously challenge Trump before he secured the Republican nomination. However, the split among Haley’s voters and donors could impact Trump’s chances in the upcoming election, especially in battleground states with suburban voters who are uncertain about a Trump presidency.

Interviews with Haley’s supporters indicate that they may choose different paths – some supporting Trump, some opting for Biden, while others considering third-party options or delaying a decision on the presidential race.

Haley has not publicly endorsed Trump since leaving the race, stating that it is up to Trump to earn the support of her backers. Some key donors are still undecided, waiting for a clear direction before making a decision.

Among Haley’s supporters, there are varying opinions. While some like Glenn Swanson have decided to vote for Trump despite initial reservations, others like John Wynstra are strategically backing Trump as a stance against Biden and considering third-party options.

In Haley’s home state of South Carolina, Michael Burgess expressed reluctance to vote for Trump and criticized the “Make America Great Again” movement. Burgess stated that he would support Biden unless Haley or a moderate candidate like Liz Cheney ran independently.

Many of Haley’s former supporters have paused their decisions due to concerns about Trump’s policies and rhetoric. Some are exploring third-party options like No Labels to promote unity in politics.

Overall, Haley’s donors have not made firm decisions yet. There is a period of recalibration among those who were actively involved in Haley’s campaign, with reluctance to align with Trump until a clear path forward is presented.

While Trump and national Republicans are behind Biden and Democrats in fundraising, Haley’s influence remains evident as she had a sizable campaign fund before suspending her presidential bid.
