RFK Jr. urges Israel to continue fighting with full backing from the US, tells Newsmax

Renowned independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has consistently advocated for pacifism, but he emphasized to Newsmax on Thursday the crucial need for the U.S. to stand firmly behind Israel in its efforts to eliminate Hamas, backed by Iran, in the Gaza Strip and liberate hostages taken during the Oct. 7 terrorist assault.

“It is imperative that we support Israel in this defensive war,” Kennedy asserted during his appearance on “The Record With Great Van Susteren.” “Israel was the victim of an attack. While I am opposed to war, the majority of conflicts in the past century — with the exception of World War II — have been unjust wars, wars of choice.

“This conflict is one of moral necessity because Israel was under assault. Not only on Oct. 7, but for the 16 years leading up to that, when Hamas governed Gaza and had declared war on Israel, consistently bombarding its civilians with an average of 2,000 missiles annually.”

Despite his pro-Palestinian stance and lack of admiration for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Kennedy believes the best path to a brighter future for Palestinians involves ousting Hamas, which has been in control of Gaza since 2006.

“Hamas operates as a corrupt kleptocracy,” noted Kennedy. “The top echelon has embezzled billions from the Palestinians. Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas, boasts a net worth of $5 billion, according to Forbes. The collective net worth of the two other leaders amounts to $11 billion.

“They have misappropriated funds intended for the Palestinian people, funneling them into their own pockets and using the remainder to procure weapons, construct 300 miles of tunnels for attacking Israel. Hamas’ charter clearly states their opposition to negotiating with Israel, with their sole objective being the total obliteration of Israel. Given this, Israel’s only recourse is to eliminate Hamas. In this endeavor, Israel requires our unwavering support.”

In envisioning a presidency under his leadership, Kennedy stated that he would seek to collaborate with other global entities like Egypt, Turkey, Russia, China, and signatories of the Abraham Accords, as well as the U.N. Security Council, to isolate Hamas.

“Israel’s predicament arises from the international community distancing itself from Israel, leaving it with little choice but to resort to violence,” Kennedy asserted. “We are all deeply saddened by the distress facing the people in Gaza. I, too, have acquaintances in Gaza. I have numerous Palestinian friends. Currently, I am providing support to family residing in Gaza amidst these dire circumstances.

“While our hearts ache for the plight of Gazans, examining Israel’s options reveals that every ceasefire struck with Hamas in the past has been exploited by Hamas to regroup, rearm, and launch further attacks on Israel. For Palestinians to envision a prosperous future characterized by freedom akin to that enjoyed by Israelis, the route to achieving this lies in eliminating Hamas.”
