Ben Carson urges Newsmax to restore reverence for law enforcement

Dr. Ben Carson, speaking on Newsmax Saturday while slain New York City Police officer Jonathan Diller was being laid to rest in Massapequa, New York, urged the nation to bring back respect for police officers and the sacrifices they make.

“Those protesting against police brutality fail to recognize the crucial role police play in maintaining harmony in our society,” Carson, a former secretary of Housing and Urban Development and a professor emeritus at Johns Hopkins University of Medicine, told Newsmax “Saturday Report” host Rita Crosby.

“Can you imagine just one to two days without police? The chaos that would ensue? These courageous individuals should be honored and compensated for their constant risk-taking. Respect for the police must be reinstated.”

Diller, 31, a three-year veteran of the specialized Community Response Team, was fatally shot during a traffic stop in Far Rockaway, Queens on Monday. He later succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and their 1-year-old son, Ryan.

Carson also discussed the upcoming presidential election, highlighting the decreasing support among Black voters for President Joe Biden and the increasing support for former President Donald Trump.

“Black people are noticing the lack of resources, the rise in crime, and the prioritization of illegal immigrants over their needs. This dissatisfaction is valid, and their loyalties are rightfully being questioned,” Carson stated.
