WestJet introduces new ‘Extended Comfort’ seating option for Economy Class passengers
WestJet has introduced a new seating option for economy class travellers who want more comfort without the high cost of first-class fares. This new option, called “Extended Comfort,” will be available on WestJet flights starting April 10, specifically on the airline’s 737 and 787 aircraft.
The Extended Comfort seating provides passengers with three to six inches of extra legroom, priority boarding, early access to overhead bin storage, and a quicker exit from the plane as they will be seated near the front. Passengers may also qualify for a complimentary alcoholic beverage, as mentioned on the WestJet website.
According to John Weatherill, WestJet Group’s executive vice-president and chief commercial officer, the addition of Extended Comfort aligns with WestJet’s goal of offering a variety of products to cater to different travel preferences and budgets. The enhanced experience is designed to provide affordability and accessibility to guests.
Passengers interested in the Extended Comfort seating will need to pay an additional fee, the amount of which will vary depending on the flight. This upgraded seating option is located at the front of the economy cabin.

The website states that the fee for Extended Comfort seating is determined by factors such as origin and destination, fare bundle selected, travel date, and seat location. This option is open to passengers purchasing economy fares like basic, econ, and econoflex.
Extended Comfort seating will replace the previous “preferred seating” option offered by WestJet. Passengers who had previously purchased preferred seating will still receive the Extended Comfort experience at no extra charge.
