Ways House Republicans can ensure accountability for Biden’s foreign-policy mistakes

Speaker Mike Johnson announced on Sunday that a vote will be called in the House for an improved National Defense Supplemental bill that will provide essential aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

This legislation will be a test for the slim Republican House majority that has been consistently volatile.

It is crucial for the GOP to ensure the passage of this bill to prevent President Biden from blaming his foreign policy failures on them.

During the Trump-Pence administration, policies effectively addressed authoritarian aggression by supporting Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

Since the Biden-Harris administration took office and withdrew from Afghanistan, Russia has invaded Ukraine, Iran has supported severe assaults on the Jewish people, and China is signaling an impending invasion of Taiwan as it takes over more Pacific islands from the Philippines.

The Biden administration has overseen 11 embassy evacuations, indicating a significant decrease in US influence abroad.

China is expanding its presence in the Western Hemisphere through TikTok and engaging in aggressive military actions against US allies. The administration is also showing wavering commitment to Israel to avoid backlash from voters in swing states.

The aftermath of the Afghanistan withdrawal is beginning to show its effects, with Afghanistan becoming a hotspot for ISIS-K activities resulting from the surrender of rare-earth minerals, bases, and weapons to enemies.

With multiple national crises and a lack of defense budget, Biden is now seeking an emergency national security bill from Congress.

Republican opposition to increased military spending has allowed Biden to shift blame for the crises onto them, despite them occurring during his administration.

An isolationist faction within the Republican Party has been criticized for appearing weak on defense, leaving allies vulnerable and letting Biden’s foreign policy failures go unchecked.

Republican leadership should resist this faction and pass a national security bill that includes necessary weapons improvements and policy changes to counter threats.

China’s defense budget has increased, while Biden’s proposed defense spending barely sees an uptick, failing to keep up with inflation.

Congress should support allies and deter adversaries to regain US strength and influence in a volatile world.

Speaker Johnson should lead the House to strengthen allies and hold the White House accountable for its foreign policy decisions.

A carefully crafted national security bill would provide resources to Ukraine, support Israel in its conflicts, and arm Taiwan to counter Chinese aggression.

By supporting these nations, Congress can enhance American security and address the failures of the Biden administration’s foreign policy.
