Several individuals killed in stabbing spree at Westfield Bondi Shopping Centre
Multiple people, including a baby, were stabbed, and a man was shot by police at Westfield Bondi Junction in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, resulting in injuries to a baby as well.
Emergency services responded to the incident around 3.40 p.m. on Saturday, with reports of multiple stabbings and a police-involved shooting.
At the scene, numerous paramedics are treating patients, and authorities have declared a critical incident.
Social media posts depicted crowds outside the shopping center and the presence of tactical police and ambulances.
Witnesses reported people fleeing from a knife-wielding man and seeking refuge in stores.
According to NSW Ambulance, seven individuals, including a nine-month-old baby, were hospitalized with stab wounds, and one of the offenders was shot dead.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene with people running and a police officer confronting a knife-wielding man before shooting him when he refused to comply.
Residents shared their fears and experiences of the incident, with many evacuating the shopping center in panic.
Local authorities advised against unnecessary travel to the area and confirmed the shopping center was under lockdown.
