Tesla issues recall for Cybertrucks due to accelerator jamming | Business News

Tesla has issued a recall for over 3,800 of its Cybertruck models due to concerns about the accelerator pedal getting stuck, according to US regulators.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notified the carmaker, which was founded and led by Elon Musk, after a video surfaced showing a rubber cover on the accelerator coming loose and causing the pedal to stick down. The video, shared on Musk’s X platform and TikTok, has garnered millions of views.

Tesla reportedly halted sales and deliveries temporarily in response to the NHTSA’s contact. The recall affects a total of 3,878 Cybertrucks.

Tesla began delivering its Cybertruck electric pickup truck late last year after facing production and battery-supply challenges that caused a two-year delay.

The company will repair or replace the accelerator pedal assembly free of charge, with affected owners set to receive notification letters in June, according to the NHTSA.

Cybertruck owner Jose Martinez shared with Sky’s US partner network NBC News his experience of driving his new Cybertruck, which started accelerating unexpectedly while he was on a local drag strip in southern California. Martinez mentioned that he managed to temporarily resolve the issue by removing the rubber cover on the pedal.

“Other than this, it’s a pretty solidly built car,” Martinez added. “I know saying ‘other than this’ makes it sound like it’s not major, and it is. Because it is such a massive car, and it’s got such a great amount of power, I do feel like things in regard to safety definitely need to be a priority in getting it addressed and fixed.”
