Rabbi Menken Speaks to Newsmax: Schools Favoring ‘Antisemitic Barbarians’ at the Expense of Jews

Rabbi Yaakov Menken, managing director of the Coalition for Jewish Values, expressed concerns about the challenging decision between supporting Jews or “antisemitic barbarians” in light of recent events at Columbia University.

Speaking with Newsmax on Monday, Menken highlighted the seriousness of the situation, stating, “University administrators are faced with a clear choice between Jews and antisemitic barbarians at Columbia University. Unfortunately, they seem to be siding with the barbarians, and the impact on America is concerning.”

Tensions escalated at Columbia University on Monday, leading to the suspension of in-person classes due to security concerns.

The university has become a focal point of unrest among American colleges, with similar incidents at New York University and Yale University. In fact, dozens of anti-Israel demonstrators were detained at Yale on Monday, as reported by CNN here.

Menken’s comments on the “Chris Salcedo Show” reflect growing concerns about rising antisemitism on college campuses, particularly at Columbia University. He mentioned the university’s decision to switch to virtual learning following safety concerns raised by Jewish students.

“The move to virtual learning at Columbia was actually prompted by the Orthodox rabbi of OU-JLIC [Orthodox Union Heshe and Harriet Seif Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus] advising students in a WhatsApp chat to leave the campus for their own safety,” Menken explained.

He emphasized the historical context of antisemitism, pointing out its genocidal nature and drawing parallels with past atrocities, specifically in Nazi-era Germany. Menken stressed the urgency of addressing and combating antisemitism promptly.

“Throughout European history, Jews were expelled from cities, regions, and entire countries over 100 times. This pattern is now repeating at Columbia University similar to what happened in Nazi-era Germany,” Menken stated.

Menken called on institutions to take decisive action against antisemitic behavior, urging them to choose between protecting Jewish students or tolerating bigotry.

“Campuses like Yale and Harvard now face a choice: will they take action to combat antisemitism, or will they allow Jewish students to be targeted?” he noted.

The Coalition for Jewish Values works to advance Jewish interests, combat antisemitism, and promote tolerance and understanding in society.
