Poll Shows 17% of Canadians in Favor of Latest Federal Budget
Only 17 percent of Canadians are in favor of the Liberal government’s recent federal budget, as per a new poll. Meanwhile, 40 percent oppose it, and 43 percent are neutral.
Additionally, 10 percent of surveyed Canadians believe the budget will benefit them, while 37 percent think it will have a negative impact on them, and 53 percent are indifferent.
Regarding concerns raised, a majority (59 percent) feel that the budget focuses too much on spending, 20 percent believe it prioritizes deficit reduction excessively, and 21 percent think it strikes the right balance.
Furthermore, 34 percent of respondents mentioned that the latest budget has decreased their likelihood of voting for the Liberal party, while 8 percent reported an increased likelihood, and 58 percent stated that their views remained unchanged.
Budget Outline
The leaders of the Conservatives, Bloc Québécois, and Green Party have expressed their intention to vote against the latest Liberal budget. However, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has stated that he will discuss the budget with the prime minister before making a decision.
According to an Ipsos poll on April 23, the Conservatives continue to maintain a 19-point lead over the Liberals, with 43 percent support compared to 24 percent for the Liberals, 19 percent for the NDP, and 8 percent for the Bloc Quebecois.
When asked about which party they absolutely would not vote for in the next election, 32 percent of respondents said the Liberals, followed by 27 percent who mentioned the Conservatives, 14 percent for the NDP, and 5 percent for the Bloc Québécois. The remaining 23 percent were unsure.
