Columbia University father tells Newsmax that his degree could be worthless
A Jewish father of a senior at Columbia University expressed his concerns over the university’s reputation amid ongoing protests and tensions, fearing it could impact his daughter’s future.
In an interview with Newsmax on Wednesday, the father, known as “Jason,” shared his disappointment regarding his daughter’s education at Columbia University amidst ongoing protests. He worried about the potential effects on her career prospects and worried that the university’s damaged reputation might devalue her degree.
“It’s truly heartbreaking. Both I and my daughter were thrilled when she got accepted into Columbia. I thought it would set her up for life,” Jason said, reflecting on his initial hopes for his daughter’s education.
He expressed his concerns on “The Record With Greta Van Susteren” that employers might overlook applicants from Columbia University’s current graduating class due to concerns about their behavior and conduct during the protests.
“Employers receiving applications from this class at Columbia…may throw those resumes and applications away due to fears of hiring entitled individuals who do not follow any codes of conduct and behave disrespectfully towards their colleagues and fellow students,” he explained.
Jason also mentioned a broader animosity towards America and Christianity within the university environment, but emphasized that his concerns were not solely related to his Jewish identity. Despite this, he found comfort in the solidarity extended by Christian community members amidst the chaos.
“This is not just about being Jewish. There’s a disdain for America and Christianity. The support from the Christian community…has been touching to see my brothers and sisters standing with us,” he commented.
The concerns raised by Jason coincide with ongoing protests at Columbia University and other major American universities surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
At Columbia University, protests have escalated, leading the institution to move to primarily hybrid classes on the main campus until the end of the semester, as reported by CNN.
Student protesters at Columbia University have made demands for divestment from entities associated with Israel, indicating that tensions continue to rise.
