DC judge exposes widespread hypocrisy in federal government

Judge Ana Reyes of Washington, DC, recently criticized the Justice Department for advising two lawyers in its Tax Division to ignore a congressional subpoena in the Hunter Biden investigation. She pointed out the hypocrisy of pursuing Trump officials for the same offense while flouting subpoenas themselves.

Peter Navarro, a former Trump trade adviser, is currently in jail for defying a subpoena from the January 6 Committee led by Nancy Pelosi.

Reyes highlighted the irony of pursuing criminal investigations and imprisoning individuals for not complying with subpoenas while simultaneously disregarding those same subpoenas.

It’s a significant moment when a Biden-appointed judge like Reyes calls out the double standards and hypocrisy within the federal government.

One of the notable instances of hypocrisy within the Biden administration lies with IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel, who claims to protect whistleblowers in theory but has failed to support whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joe Ziegler in practice.

Last year, IRS investigators Shapley and Ziegler blew the whistle on DOJ obstruction in the Hunter Biden investigation, facing opposition from their superiors when they raised concerns about misconduct. They eventually brought more than 150 exhibits before the House Ways and Means Committee to expose interference by prosecutors in the investigation.

The whistleblowers detailed various instances where prosecutors impeded the investigation and protected Hunter Biden, including failure to search certain properties, delays in pursuing charges, and approving favorable plea deals.

Following these whistleblowers’ disclosures, US Attorney David Weiss was forced to appoint a special counsel, creating further tension between Weiss and the whistleblowers.

The ongoing pattern of retaliation against the whistleblowers underscores the challenges they face in exposing misconduct within the government.

Despite Werfel’s professed support for whistleblowers, his inaction and reluctance to meet with Shapley and Ziegler demonstrate a lack of genuine commitment to their protection.

The mistreatment of these whistleblowers is concerning and highlights the need for accountability and transparency within government institutions.
