Prosecutors Face Potential Issue with Michael Cohen’s TikTok Videos
Michael Cohen, former President Donald Trump’s attorney turned witness against him in a criminal trial, is now hosting nightly streams on TikTok.
This has raised concerns among legal experts, as reported by ABC News.
Cohen, known as Trump’s “fixer,” is a crucial witness in Trump’s ongoing trial in Manhattan. Trump is facing charges related to falsifying business records concerning a payment of $130,000 to Cohen, meant to reimburse him for hushing porn star Stormy Daniels about an alleged affair with Trump in 2006, a claim Trump has vehemently denied.
In 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations and tax evasion linked to the payment, resulting in a prison sentence and disbarment.
On TikTok, with over 290,000 followers, Cohen ridicules his former boss while offering live commentary on the trial. Recently, Cohen announced he would refrain from commenting on the trial until he testifies.
“Out of respect for Judge [Juan] Merchan and the prosecutors, I will stop posting about Donald… until after my trial testimony,” Cohen stated. “See you all in a month.”
However, shortly after this declaration, Cohen talked about the trial with Rosie O’Donnell in a TikTok video, criticizing Trump for bringing one of his former advisers to the trial and praising Trump’s attorneys, as per ABC News.
Legal experts expressed outrage at Cohen’s public discussion about the case and mentioned they would demand he stop. They highlighted the potential negative impact of witnesses being associated with financial motives.
According to ABC News, the fundraising efforts on Cohen’s TikTok remain undisclosed, with one former prosecutor warning of potential repercussions due to financial incentives distorting the truth.
Following the ABC News report, Cohen denounced it as tabloid journalism and unimportant, urging a boycott of ABC News.
