Republican Senate Campaign Chairman: ‘We Cannot Match Democrats in Fundraising’
National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair Steve Daines, R-Mont., expressed confidence on Thursday that despite the Democrat fundraising advantage in major Senate races this year, Republicans will secure a net gain of at least two seats, giving them a majority of 51 in the Senate.
“We will never match the Democrats in fundraising,” Daines told Newsmax. “When running as a Republican, we understand that Democrats will always out-raise us.”
Citing his own 2020 reelection race, where he was significantly out-fundraised by Democrat Gov. Steve Bullock, Daines noted that despite the financial disparity, he won with nearly 55% of the vote.
In most of the competitive Senate races this year, Democrats are ahead in fundraising. For example, Sen. Sherrod Brown in Ohio raised $12 million in the first quarter of 2024, while Republican challenger Bernie Moreno has not disclosed his fundraising numbers yet.
Despite fundraising challenges, Daines believes that Republican incumbents like Ted Cruz in Texas will prevail, as seen in recent polls showing Cruz with a double-digit lead over his Democratic rival. Daines remains optimistic that fundraising differentials will not determine the outcome of these races.
Daines shared his views at a press breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor.
