New Advertisement Focuses on Trump’s Family Separation Policy

The Biden campaign is set to launch a digital ad on Tuesday aimed at reminding Latino voters of former President Donald Trump’s family separation policy at the border. The policy resulted in nearly 4,000 children being taken from their parents, as reported by Axios.

The ad, named Ripped Apart, features footage of Trump making anti-immigrant remarks along with the cries of children who were separated from their parents.

As immigration becomes one of the major issues for voters this election season, the ad highlights Biden’s efforts to reunite families.

“If Trump is re-elected, the chaos and cruelty we saw in his first term is just the beginning. He will further attack and demonize immigrants, without addressing the real issues in our broken immigration system,” stated Biden-Harris campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodríguez.

The family separation policy, announced six years ago, was a critical moment in the Trump administration that turned public opinion against him. Trump eventually reversed the policy a month later.

Families were separated due to a “zero tolerance” policy that required adults crossing the border illegally to face criminal prosecution. This led children who crossed the border with their parents to be taken into government custody, resulting in many being separated for months due to poor tracking systems.

Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt criticized Biden’s reversal of Trump’s immigration policies, claiming it has created a crisis at the southern border and led to record-high rates of human trafficking.
