Turley: Decision on Trump Trial Ultimately up to Judge
According to Jonathan Turley, a lawyer and professor at George Washington University Law School, the judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial in New York City could potentially rule in favor of the defense by the end of the week.
During the trial, Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, testified about payments made to Stormy Daniels, an adult film star, just before the 2016 election. Trump is facing 34 felony charges related to falsifying business records at the Trump Organization to conceal the payments.
In an opinion piece for the New York Post, Turley expressed his belief that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is relying on the jury to convict Trump, regardless of the evidence presented in court.
Turley also mentioned that the defense plans to request a direct verdict from the judge, Judge Juan Merchan, based on the argument that the evidence presented is insufficient to support a conviction. If granted, this could potentially result in a favorable outcome for Trump.
