Rep. Carol Miller wins GOP nomination in W.Va. over Jan. 6 rioter Derrick Evans

Congresswoman Carol Miller has successfully defended her Republican primary victory against Derrick Evans, a convicted Jan. 6 riot participant, in West Virginia’s 1st Congressional District.

Miller prevailed over Evans and is now seeking her fourth term in November.

During her campaign, Miller focused on her own achievements and endorsements, mostly ignoring Evans, despite his relentless attacks on her character in campaign emails, often resorting to name-calling and praising former President Donald Trump.

Following her primary win, Miller expressed gratitude and stated her commitment to continue working for the betterment of West Virginia.

Evans, who served three months in prison after pleading guilty to a felony civil disorder charge related to the Capitol riot, resigned from his position in the West Virginia House of Delegates. Despite both candidates being Trump supporters, their paths and approaches differ significantly.

Miller, a bison farmer and small business owner, has maintained a relatively low profile since being elected to Congress in 2018. In contrast, Evans has switched party affiliations and made controversial statements during his political career.

In the recent election, Miller secured 66% of the vote in the GOP primary, with Evans being her sole opponent.

As the campaign against Miller continues, Evans has criticized her political stance and alignment with Trump, labeling her with derogatory terms.
