A small amount of white, powdery material that tested positive for cocaine in a field test was found inside a small zip lock bag that was about one inch by one inch, according to the United States Capitol Police (USCP).

The bag was discovered on the ground in a hallway of the USCP’s main office.

Located on the second floor, the hallway serves as a staging area for supplies and furnishings. A wide variety of contractors and employees frequent the space.

Additionally, it is close to offices for report processing, prisoner processing, crime scene investigations, and intelligence.

An officer discovered the baggie in the middle of the floor shortly before 1:00 p.m. and reported it to a supervisor immediately. When the residue was field tested, cocaine was found to be present.

An investigation has now been launched by the USCP Investigations Division, and it will be conducting testing, including a DNA test on the baggie in order to find fingerprints.

This most recent drug discovery follows another cocaine investigation that occurred over 10 months ago after a small bag was found at the White House. A little baggie of white powder was discovered by Secret Service agents in a West Wing storage box on July 2nd, which was located one floor below the Oval Office by the Situation Room. However, the Secret Service eventually concluded its 11-day investigation without identifying a suspect.
